Route description
Operation
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 67 bus operates seven days a week; service begins at 5 a.m. on weekdays. 6 a.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. on Sundays. Service is in operation until 11 p.m. Unfortunately, service has no corresponding overnight Owl bus line when service is not in operation after 11 p.m through midnight. The frequency is every 20 minutes.
Routing description (IB to OB)
The route begins at 24th and Mission, leaving the inbound terminus. The 67 performs a loop around Mission, 25th, South Van Ness streets, and then turns back on 24th to reach Folsom. From 24th to Folsom, the 67 will veer south onto Folsom, and it connects to the 12, thereafter, separating at Cesar Chavez. The 67 will leave the Mission District and entering the Bernal Heights neighborhood continuing to head south onto Folsom. And then, from Folsom to Ripley, and then a right turn onto Alabama, the 67 features a 23.1% steep grade between Ripley and Esmeralda portion of the route.[1] And then the 67 veers onto Bradford street serving one of the famous attractions, the Bernal Heights Park. From Bradford to Cortland, the 67 will start to go downward until it reaches Nevada & Cortland. From Nevada to Cortland, the 67 connects to the 24 for not so long. At Folsom and Cortland, the 24 and 67 separates. The 67 will continue traveling south on Folsom after requiring many turns. And then, from Folsom to Crescent, the 67 connects to another route, the 23 for the last time as both of these routes travel eastbound towards Alemany. From Crescent to Alemany, the 23 and 67 separates. The 67 will travel along Alemany adjacent to the I-280 Southern Freeway. Steering onto Ellsworth, the 67 provides connection the St Mary's Park and travels on this one-way traffic until it reaches Ellsworth & Crescent. (Outbound Terminus)
Proposed changes
In response to neighborhood concerns, the Transit Service Planning Team launch a flyer of the initial inbound routing of the 67 that would travel on Bernal Heights Boulevard between Bradford and Folsom Streets in January of 2014; the initial inbound routing of the 67 would no longer travel along Alabama and Ripley streets.[2][3]
History
Former line
The initial routing of the 67 line was nearly identical to the defunct bus route, the 23 Crescent. The 23 Crescent was defunct in the early 80s after parts of the 9 Richland, 13 Ellsworth, and 23 Crescent lines were combined to form the 67 line.
Defunct Clockwise/Counter-Clockwise
The 67 line used to operate a "Clockwise" / "Counterclockwise" and "inbound" / "outbound" service together. The "Clockwise" & "Counterclockwise" service was later defunct in the late-2000s.
Clockwise
The Clockwise route was also known as Inbound GOLD Loop, this route would first follow through today's current outbound route until it reaches Folsom and Crescent. Then, the 67 pairs up to it's Counterclockwise route for a while. This route will loop back along with the Counterclockwise route to Crescent via Alemany and Ellsworth streets. When both routes reach Ellsworth to Crescent, the Clockwise & Counterclockwise routes would split. The Clockwise follow along on the 23 Monterey's journey traveling west on Crescent to Mission street. From Crescent to Mission, the 23 and 67 split paths; the 67 will travel northbound on Mission and making local stops as well. From Mission to Valencia, it would continue traveling northbound following the 12 Folsom/Pacific initial routing until it reaches the southwest corner of the 24th and Mission BART station entrance and terminates.[4]
Counter-Clockwise
The Counterclockwise route was also known as Outbound RED Loop. From the 24th and Mission stop, this route would travel southbound on Mission and making local stops as well. From Mission to Crescent, it would follow along on the 23 Monterey's journey traveling eastbound on Crescent until it reaches Alemany. From Crescent to Alemany, the 23 and 67 would split paths; the 67 then pairs up with it's Clockwise route for a slight bit. This route will loop back along with the Counterclockwise route to Crescent via Alemany and Ellsworth streets. When both routes reach Ellsworth to Crescent, the Clockwise & Counterclockwise routes would split. The Counterclockwise route would follow today's 67 inbound routing until it reaches the northeast corner of the 24th and Mission BART station entrance and terminates.[4]
Bus stop listing
Inbound has 19 stops; outbound has 25 stops. Most bus stops on this list are a few feet away from the curb, so people usually have to board the bus on the street.
