Plot
Eylül (Farah Zeynep Abdullah) has it all- the looks, the family, and the money. Dating a successful movie star, Atil (Onur Tuna), she seems happy but claims she's too joyful to fall in love. While traveling with her boyfriend, their car crashes. Both survive with minor injuries, but Eylül cannot remember the past month- the month of September [also the meaning of her name] Feeling something is amiss, she insists on traveling to Bozcaada with her best friend Berrak (Ceren Moray), where she had spent the previous "missing" month.
In Bozcaada, she meets a native man called Tekin or Tek (Engin Akyürek). An innocent, soft-spoken man, Tek is a recluse due to his perceived ugliness. He claims they have met before and she has fallen in love with him. Unable to remember, Eylül decides to give Tek a chance to tell his tale- and he does using his caricatures.
The film goes back and forth between the present day, where Eylül converses with Tek, and Berrak warning her somethings are better not remembered, and the previous month, where we see the relationship between Tek and Eylül develop.
In the previous month, Eylül was vacationing on Bozcada Island with her friends. Tek who paints the caravans and signboards, falls in love with her at first sight. Gülşah (Serra Keskin), a little girl who is Tek's best friend, introduces them. Eylül, who is quite flirty, at the beginning just thinks of Tek as a "summer fun" and does not consider his feelings.
However, growing bored with her current relationship with Atil, Eylül decides to stay on the island on impulse and Tek continues to pursue her, inviting her to traditional breakfasts, sharing a beautiful sunset, going out dancing, convincing her to postpone her return.
One day they decide to swim together, Tek admitting he does not know how to swim. Eylül convinces him to join her in water, with Tek stating while quite fearful, he does not fear the world while with her.
As their relationship develops, one night Berrak calls Eylül but she hides the fact she is with Tek, unable to tell her friend she has fallen in love with him. Tek is heartbroken upon realizing this, wishing on a fallen star if only he could be the handsome, out spoken man she could fall in love with. Realizing she truly has fallen, she tells him she chooses him and they make love.
In the morning, Eylül wakes up and happily starts preparing breakfast for Tek, but upon seeing her reflection in the mirror and realizing how much she has changed, she panics and calls Berrak to come pick her up.
That night, Berrak, Atil and Eylül are dancing, where Tek approaches them and claims Eylül is his girlfriend. Eylül tells him that it is over, it was a "summer love" and she is leaving. The next day, when Eylül and her friends are about to leave with a floatplane, Tek comes to plead to Eylül for one last time to stay, but she laughs at him and leaves. Unable to face losing her, Tek walks into the water and drowns.
With this final memory, Eylül's lost September is now restored. The crash happened because she saw an obituary in the newspaper for Tekin, and in a panic, she lunged at the wheel, claiming she had to go back. On present day, diving in to the water, she finds Tek's pen, and writes to the sand a mirror of what Tek wrote before: Eylül loves Tek, a sentiment Tek insisted to hear her say before she left, and one she had refused (Earlier, Tek had written Tek loves Eylül to the sand, stating when the waves wash away the words, they'll carry them to wherever she travels)
Heartbroken, Eylül writes a note to the strawman in Tek's garden with his pen (There was a small affair, left unresolved) creating a makeshift gravestone for Tek.
