Abish Mathew

Abish Mathew is a stand-up comedian and YouTuber.[2] He is known for his work with All India Bakchod, as the creator and host of Son of Abish and Journey Of A Joke, and as the host of Comicstaan.[3][4]He is also known as the The Last King of the Chessboard because of his magic strategies with the King piece in chess, winning from impossible scenarios.

Personal life

Abish was born in Kerala.[5] He completed his schooling from Fr. Agnel School, New Delhi, and studied history at Ram Lal Anand College, University of Delhi.

Since Mathew is a Catholic, he was the member of St. Mary's Church, Noida before moving to Mumbai. He got engaged to actress and YouTuber Archana Kavi on 31 October 2015. They got married on 23 January 2016 in Vallarpadam Church, Kerala.[6] In 2021, they got separated. [7]

Career

He began his career as a radio jockey at Red FM, Delhi before switching to stand-up comedy.[8]

Son Of Abish is a comedy talk show hosted by Mathew that debuted in 2015. Since then, the show has hosted guests such as Kenny Sebastian, Kunal Kamra, Swara Bhaskar, Vidya Balan, Anand Gandhi, Irrfan Khan, Suresh Menon, Sonakshi Sinha, Dulquer Salmaan, Zakir Khan, Shirley Setia, Mithila Palkar, Vishal Dadlani, Miss Malini, Vicky Kaushal, Arman Malik, Abhay Deol, Yami Gautam, Jassie Gill, Prajakta Koli , Tanmay Bhat, Bhuvan Bam, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Radhika Apte, Radhika Madan, Naveen Polishetty, Vir Das and Jordindian.[9] In 2017, he acted as a supporting character in the movie named, Meri Pyaari Bindu.[10]

On YouTube, Abish has a prolific presence apart from Son of Abish, thanks to his comedy-analysis series 'Journey of a Joke[11]', on which he sits alongside famous Indian comedians to breakdown their famous comedy bits.

In 2018, Abish also released his Amazon PrimeVideo special 'Whoop[12]', which featured his observations growing up as a Delhi Malayali, and a single boy child among several sisters. Abish has also featured as a host on both seasons on 'Comicstaan'.

Chess

Abish has also appeared in various chess streams in Samay Raina's YouTube channel. He is known for his sacrificial style of play. His main attacking piece is the King. He typically sacrifices all his pieces and flags his opponents, as seen in various Comedians On Board tournaments.[13]
