Adjany Costa

Adjany Costa (born 1989) is an Angolan marine biologist and conservationist from Huambo who has served as the Angolan Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment.[1][2][3] Adjany is committed to saving one of the world’s last wild places, the Okavango Basin.[4]

Costa was the African winner of the United Nations Environment Programme Young Champions of the Earth award[5] and the Angolan First Order of Civil Merit[6] in 2019. She received this in recognition for her community-based conservation work with the Luchaze people of the Eastern Angolan highlands and the Okavango Delta.[7][8] She is a National Geographic Explorer, and appeared in the 2018 documentary film Into the Okavango.[9] Costa has a master's degree and is working towards a PhD at the University of Oxford.[2]

She was appointed the position of Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment in April 2020, making her the youngest minister in Angolan history.[2] She was later removed from the position in October 2020 by President João Lourenço and kept as a consultant to the President.[10]
