AiFi works with retailers including Carrefour (France), Morrisons (UK), Żabka (Poland),[1][2] and Choice Market as well as technical partnerships such as Verizon for 5G connectivity.

Founded in 2016 by former Apple and Google X researchers Steve Gu and Ying Zheng, AiFi is considered a competitor to Amazon Go in the autonomous shopping space by CNBC and Fortune.[3][4][5]

Autonomous Store Platform

AiFi's autonomous store platform named OASIS (Orchestrated Autonomous Store Infrastructure and Services) is an end-to-end platform that helps brick-and-mortar retailers build, transform and operate autonomous stores.[6] The OASIS platform uses digital cameras and AI-powered software to recognize and record whatever merchandise shoppers take out of the store.[6][7][8] Designed with flexibility and scalability in mind, it scales seamlessly to handle retailers' needs. OASIS combines cameras and sophisticated software to create a state of the art automated retail solution. The system is trained to recognize tens of thousands of SKUs with pinpoint accuracy including shelved products of any size, warm or frozen foods, fresh produce, dispensed drinks and many more.

Advances in both software and hardware have made computer vision a powerful way of visualizing what happens inside a store, including which products customers interact with and how they navigate the physical space. With the application of this technology, AiFi values privacy. This technology is 100% GDPR and CCPA compliant and does not use facial recognition or collect any biometric data.

Nanostore

NanoStore® is a fully-automated, container-sized, checkout-free store - ready for global deployment on a moment's notice. It is currently deployed with partners in locations worldwide. It runs on AiFi's proprietary OASIS platform.  Shoppers enter a NanoStore by swiping a method of payment such as a payment card or a mobile payment on their smartphones, pick up items they want to purchase, and then exit the store without going through any kind of checkout counter. A NanoStore can be placed inside or outside existing big box stores as a 24/7 service mini-store. They can also be placed in high-traffic areas such as public transit hubs.

AiFi debuted its first NanoStore on January 14, 2019 at the National Retail Federation's Big Show and Expo, reported by AP News, Forbes, and Business Insider. A second NanoStore announced by Forbes opened to the public at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, Netherlands on November 30, 2019 to provide convenience items for air travelers. On December 20, 2020 Fortune announced the first AiFi-powered gas station NanoStore by Loop Neighborhood in Silicon Valley, California at a Shell for grab-and-go groceries. AiFi's latest NanoStore was deployed at the Indy 500 on May 30, 2021 and saw thousands of shoppers. On June 12, 2021, AiFi and Zabka launched the first autonomous Zappka store in Poznan serving commuters fresh coffee and snacks.

Locations

CNBC in November 2019 said a total of eight autonomous stores were being tested by AiFi.[3] In 2021, AiFi already has the second-highest number of store deployments and AiFi-powered stores can be found in major cities like San Francisco, Denver, Paris, Warsaw, and Dubai. AiFi has been innovating with Verizon to build 5G-enabled autonomous stores to serve events including Indy 500, Indy 200, BottleRock Napa, Sea.Hear.Now, and Governor’s Ball. In the UAE, AiFi partners up with Majid Al Futtaim to build the first autonomous Carrefour City+ store in the prestigious Mall of the Emirates. In Poland, AiFi has been supporting Zabka to roll out the autonomous Zappka stores across the country. In France, AiFi and Carrefour spent three years developing Flash 10/10 ("10 seconds to shop and 10 seconds to pay”) and launched the autonomous Carrefour Flash stores in Massy and Paris.
