Al-Nuayman ibn Amr

Al-Nuayman ibn Amr an-Najjari (Arabic: النُعيمان بن عمرو النجّاري‎), was a companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.[1] He married the sister of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, his date of birth is unknown. He died in 652 CE.

Al-Nuayman was known for being a prankster and his pranks were always appreciated by the Prophet.

Al-Nuayman was an alcoholic. Despite knowing the ruling of Islam towards the intoxicating drink, he struggled with breaking his addiction, and was flogged twice for drinking.

During the second incident, Omar ibn Al-Khattab said: "La 'nat Allah alayhi – may God's curse be on him." Muhammad heard this and responded with "No, no, don't do (such a thing). Indeed he loves God and His Apostle. The major sin does not put one outside the community and the mercy of God is close to the believers."[2]
