History
The school is named after Alexander Adaire (1834–1904), a former president of the Philadelphia Lumber Exchange at Howard and Berks Streets. The school, originally a K-12 institution, was built from lumber provided by Adaire, who also participated in philanthropy and served on the school board of the Philadelphia School District.[2]
