History

Amara Communications was founded as a subsidiary of IGE Group of Companies in 2011. It was established as a wireless infrastructure provider such as civil work, tower, power, radio equipment installation, and operation maintenance.[3]

It has 2 subsidiaries, Ananda, a 4G+ operator that facilitates individuals and enterprises with digital services, and Amara Distributions (ADS), it is Myanmar's first data-only 4G provider.[4][5]

In 2016, it won the auction for providing 4G internet services through 2600 Mhz spectrum LTE in Yangon, Ayeyawaddy, Rakhine as the number one candidate bidding US$95.81 million and in Mandalay, Sagaing, Chin, Shan, Kachin, Kayah as the number two candidate bidding US$24.55 million. Amara Communications also partnered with Fintech Ongo to offer digital payment services.[6] [7] [8] [9][10]

In 2017, the Ministry of Transport and Communications acquired a Network Facility Service (Individual) permit and a data transfer capacity permit to build up a Wireless Broadband Network and give Internet services.[11]

In 2018, Amara Communications launched a wireless broadband service in Yangon and a year later in 2019 in Mandalay.
