Anoosheh Ashoori

Anoosheh Ashoori is a British–Iranian businessman and father currently detained in Iran. Iranian authorities arrested Ashoori in August 2017, when he went to the country to visit his mother.[1][2] In August 2019, the Iranian judiciary sentenced Ashoori to 12 years in prison; 10 years for allegedly "spying for Israel's Mossad" and two years for "acquiring illegitimate wealth."[3]. Ashoori and his family have repeatedly denied these charges, claiming that he is innocent, and that he is a victim of Iran's "Hostage diplomacy" strategy which is designed to pressure the UK government. The family's efforts are represented at the parliamentary level by their respresntative, Janet Daby, MP for Lewisham East, who also publicly lobbies on behalf of Anoosheh Ashoori and his family [4]

Ashoori spent 10 years in the UK from 1972, while he studied mechanical and aeronautical engineering. He returned in 2005 to 'expand his business abroad'.[5]

Free Anoosheh Campaign

Anoosheh Ashoori's family started publicly campaigning for his release after his case was made public by the Iranian Judicial System. Since then, his wife, Sherry Izadi, and his children, Elika Ashoori & Aryan Ashoori started the "Free Anoosheh" campaign,[6] which has included campaigns with Amnesty International UK,[7] a petition on Change.org and numerous appearance in British and global news outlets.
