Anyone (band)

Anyone is a band from Southern California that formed in 1995. Their 2001 self-titled album was released on Roadrunner Records. Anyone is the brainchild of Riz Story, the band's lead singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer, and also the only member of the band that has remained since its inception. Former members include David Silveria (Korn), Jon Davison (Yes, Glass Hammer, Sky Cries Mary), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), and Gretchen Menn.

The band toured in support of their debut studio album, notably at the Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and Lowland Festival as well as extensive American tours. The album received 5 out of 5 stars at ROLLING STONE.com [1] and was named #9 on the Metal Hammer year end chart for Metal Hammer's Albums Of 2001 list.[3] Other awards include "best band" Los Angeles Music Awards.

ANYONE reemerged in 2016 with founder Riz Story remaining as the sole member. Subsequent album releases have been highly acclaimed by critics who cite Riz Story's virtuosity on a wide variety of instruments,[2] as well as his mastery in composition, production, mixing and mastering.

History

The group developed from the earlier band Sylvia, consisting of Story, drummer Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), guitarist Sean Murphy and Jon "Juano" Davison (Yes), which dissolved when Hawkins joined Alanis Morissette's band, and Murphy began to work with bands Magdalen and Divinorum, besides his solo career. This led to Story's formation of Anyone in 1995.[3]

In 1996, Anyone's first demo album Rats Live on no Evil Star (a palindrome) was recorded. Although never officially released, the album paved the way for the band to approach record labels.[4] The live album Live Acid was released in 1999, and by 2000 the band were signed to Roadrunner Records and were working with record producer Rick Parashar, and released their self-titled full-length studio debut, Anyone in 2001.[3] the album received extremely favorable reviews.[5] The single "Real" was featured in the motion picture Empire Records.

Johnny Ransom replaced Nipples as drummer in 2002, and both Ransom and "Static" were replaced in 2004 by "Boano" as drummer, Miki Black as guitarist and keyboardist, and Miles Martin on bass. The DVD The Story of Maximum Acid was released, as was the EP A Little Sip in 2006.

Story disbanded Anyone in 2006 to pursue film making and Ocean Conservation. ANYONE reemerged with the release of the album 'Echoes and Traces' in 2016.[6] The single 'Fly Away' went to #1 on the DRT NATIONAL AIRPLAY TOP 50 ROCK CHART and #6 on BILLBOARD's Hot Singles Sales Chart.[7]

ANYONE continues to release albums with Riz Story remaining as the sole member. Story performs all of the instrumentation, as well as producing, mixing and mastering. Albums released with these credits include the critically acclaimed 'On the ending earth...' album in 2020 [8] and the critically acclaimed 'In Humanity' in 2021.[9]

Re-emergence

Story began working with ex-Korn drummer David Silveria in 2012 when the two formed the band Infinika. The debut album Echoes and Traces was released worldwide on September 1, 2014 along with a music video for the first single "Beautiful World".[10] . On April 10, 2016 the announcement was made that a remixed and remastered version of Echoes and Traces would be re-released under the band name Anyone.

Echoes and Traces was re-released in October 2016 featuring updated mixes and mastering. The first single released was "Fly Away" which made #6 on the BILLBOARD Hot Singles Chart and was the #1 song on digital radio in the US (DRT NATIONAL AIRPLAY TOP 50 ROCK CHART).[11][12][13] Five songs from the album are featured in the film and soundtrack for Riz Story's motion picture, "A Winter Rose".

In 2018 it was announced via the band's official website that a full-length documentary about the band would be released in 2019.[14] Plans were also announced for the release of a new album entitled "On the ending earth...".[15]

On 21 August 2020, Anyone released its third studio album, On the Ending Earth.... The album was created by Story, who performed all instrumentation, wrote, produced and mixed,[16] with Jon Davison guesting on bass, Miles Martin guesting on bass and Ethereal guesting on piano. The band also released a slew of singles, including "Only Imagine", "Traces - The Dream Mix" and "Chasing Dragons to the Sea".[17] In August 2020, they released the 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of their 1999 live concert album, Live Acid.[18] In January 2021, the band released the single "My Death".[19]

On October 12th 2021, Anyone released its fourth studio album, 'In Humanity'. The double concept album was written, arranged, produced, mixed, mastered and performed solely by Riz Story. The album is also the soundtrack to Story's film concept and unpublished novel of the same title. The album has been highly praised by critics who cite Riz Story's display of virtuosity on a wide variety of instruments as well his compositional prowess and innovation.[20]
