Release

It was originally released in 1997 by Larrikin Records.[1]

The Japanese label Sawano had planned to distribute the album in Japan during 2000. However, they were unable to, since Larrikin Records had recently been purchased by Festival Records, with all old copies having been scrapped during the takeover.[2] Chindamo instead recorded a new album for Sawano in 2001, titled The Joy of Standards, which ended up experiencing more success in Japan than in Australia.[2]

In 2011, it was reissued by Jazzhead Records, on both CD and digital platforms.[3][4]

Reception

In their review, The Age labelled it "by far the best" Burt Bacharach tribute album of the year. They wrote, "Chindamo deconstructs and reassembles Bacharach, highlighting such characteristics as the unexpected modulations and sudden rhythmic changes. Chindamo's finesse, precision and gorgeous sound are givens, his left hand anchoring the groove while his right produces star-bursts of color."[1]
