Armenian State Symphony Orchestra
The Armenian State Symphony Orchestra (ASSO) is the national symphony orchestra of Armenia, founded by Armenian conductor Sergey Smbatyan in 2005, as the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia.[1][2] It became the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra in 2018. As of 2020, Smbatyan remains the orchestra's artistic director and principal conductor.[2]

In 2019–20, the orchestra's artist-in-residence is the violinist Maxim Vengerov and their composer-in-residence is Alexey Shor.[3]
Sergey Smbatyan and the ASSO are suspected in collaborating with a Swiss Foundation and the Vienna Conservatory. The Foundation’s official orchestra is the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, and Artistic Director, Sergey Smbatyan. [4]. ASSO is connected to a tiny foundation in Armenia that received millions from US-based trust to finance the arts[5]. Smbatyan is connected to a Russian-backed foundation 'built strong links of influence’ in Malta. A suspicious Russian-backed foundation has spent over €12 million organizing music events and tours in Malta and abroad[6].
