Black metaltail

The black metaltail (Metallura phoebe) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is endemic to Peru and possibly stretches to northern Chile and Bolivia.[2] Within the latter two countries it is possible that there may be speciation or separate subspecies but more research is required.[3] Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. Its song has been reported to be a repeating "tsee" noise.[3] Like most hummingbirds it hovers in flight for most of its nectar feeding, and will also hunt arthropods.[3] Eggs are usually laid between July and January.[3]
