Blood on Her Name

Leigh Tiller finds a body in a garage. Panicked that she might get incarcerated into a prison cell for a crime she didn't commit, she hides the body in a trunk of her car, before deciding to dump the body in a nearby lake. Upon thinking it though, she has a change of heart, and she decides to visit the dead man's family. Assuming that the man probably have a significant other, she takes a trip to his girlfriend's house who lives with a teenage son in a trailer. There, she dumps the body in the shed, near the trailer park before knocking on the trailer's door. Since nobody answered the door, she leaves behind an anonymous note in which she expresses her regret. While Leigh assumes that by doing so she fulfils a good deed, since according to her the family is entitled to know about their loved one whereabouts, she doesn't expect it all to turn against her.

Blood on Her Name premiered at the 2019 Fantasia International Film Festival[1] and following it had it's U.S. premiere at Beyond Fest the same year. The film was released by Vertical Entertainment on November 13, 2019.[2]

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 96% based on 56 critics, with an average rating of 7.2/10. The site's critics consensus reads: "A satisfyingly dark noir elevated by stellar acting and a sharp screenplay, Blood on Her Name thrills in the moment and lingers in the memory".[3] On Metacritic, Blood on Her Name holds a rank of 63 out of a 100 based on 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[4]

Joe Leydon of Variety wrote "A film that remains relentlessly absorbing for all of its compact 83-minute length largely because it places its audience in the position of helpless witnesses to a slow-motion trainwreck".[5]

John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter called the film "a tense debut [that] buil[ds]around a compelling lead performance by Bethany Anne Lind". He then added that "Blood on Her Name benefits from a couple of graceful storytelling flourishes and a persuasive sense of character".[6]

Writing for The New York Times, Jeannette Catsoulis called the film "Oppressively dark and unrelentingly intense",[7] while Katie Rife of The A.V. Club called it "unexpected, morally complex, and alive with tension".[8]

The film was awarded with 2 stars out of 5 from Odie Henderson of RogerEbert.com who explained his reasoning for it by writing that the film "Allow[s] the viewer to piece things together on their own", which according to him "is always welcome, but the film's desire to surprise and outwit makes it contrived".[9]

According to Noel Murray of the Los Angeles Times, "Blood on Her Name runs out of juice "So now what's" by its final stretch. But Lind is terrific throughout; and it's a welcome change of pace to see a story about lawbreakers where no one involved is any kind of psychopath or super-crook".[10]

Haleigh Foutch of Collider gave the film a "B-" and called it "a gripping watch, even through the weaker moments",[11] while Matt Donato who gave it 7.5 out of 10 compared the film to the "Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun".[12]
