Early life and education

Police career
In 1986, she joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Throughout her career, she has served in numerous provinces in Canada, to include: Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. From 1993 to 1994, she served on the United Nations Protection Force in the former Yugoslavia. Her other appointments and postings included the RCMP's peacekeeping program in Ottawa in 1995, and she was appointed to Commandant of the RCMP Academy, Depot Division in 2017.
Lucki has been serving as the RCMP Commissioner since 2018, following the retirement of Commissioner Bob Paulson.[3]
In June 2020, Lucki was criticized for comments she made while answering questions on racial discrimination within the RCMP. Lucki expressed that while individual members of the force could potentially hold unconscious racial biases, and that RCMP "have a responsibility to promote inclusion and make sure we don’t have that racism", that she struggled to understand the accusations of systemic racism as targeted towards the institution.[4] She later commented that she better understood the concept of systemic racism and how it might exist within the RCMP.
