Brice Guedmbaye

Brice Mbaïmon Guedmbaye is a Chadian politician and the founding president of the Mouvement des Patriotes Tchadiens pour la République. Guedmbaye twice ran unsuccessfully for president of Chad in 2016 and in 2021.[1]

Background

Guedmbaye hails from Logone Occidental in the south-west of the country. He is a professor of French and head of the School Assessment and Guidance Division at the Regional Delegation of National Education for the commune of N'Djamena.[1] He is a visiting lecturer at Notre Dame de Moundou College, and teaches French at the Mixed Solidarity colleges of Diguel Est, Saint Etienne, Notre Dame de l'Assomption. Guedmbaye was the pioneer Secretary General of the Chadian Social Democratic Party (PSDT) before leaving to establish his own political party of Mouvement des Patriotes Tchadiens pour la République (MPTR)

Presidential contest

2016

Guedmbaye was one of 14 candidates who ran against long serving Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno in the April 10, 2016 presidential election.[2] His first presidential race on the ticket of the MPTR ended with 36,647 or (0.99) votes to place 11th position.  He was described as a “trainee candidate” in the election.

2021

Guedmbaye ran again for the president of Chad on the platform of MPTR in the April 2021 presidential election. Guedmbaye placed 5th position out of ten candidates with 64,540 or 1.40% of the votes cast. Idriss Deby of the Patriotic Salvation Movement won the election with 3,663,431 (79.32). Guedmbaye rejected the result describing as a “caricature”.[3]
