Călin Pop

Călin Pop (born 19 December, 1960 in Oradea, Bihor County, Romania) is a Romanian musician and multi-instrumentalist who is the lead singer, guitarist and frontman of the Romanian rock band Celelalte Cuvinte.

He has been active with this musical group since 1981 and has released a series of noteworthy and successful studio albums both with them and solo. As of 2021, he had released five solo studio albums, one single, and one collaborative studio album with his son, Marius Pop. Pop has been longtime signed with Soft Records in Romania.[1] In addition to playing the guitar and being a lead vocalist, Călin Pop can also play a special woodwind instrument called the blockflöte.

Biography

During teenage, Pop graduated from the Art School (Romanian: Şcoala de Arte) in his native Oradea, classic guitar department. Afterwards, he went to Emanuil Gojdu high school in his hometown as well before eventually forming Celelalte Cuvinte shortly after arriving in Timișoara, Banat in 1980 as a student at the Polytehnic University of Timișoara.[2] Celelalte Cuvinte were initially known as 'Sonic' during their early days. Throughout the passing of time, he has also collaborated with Nicu Covaci (from Transsylvania Phoenix) and Dan Andrei Aldea (from Sfinx). On 30 November 2020, Pop was diagnosed with an easy form of COVID-19, as part of the COVID-19 pandemic in Romania, but managed to recover successfully later and also criticized the panic buying during the Easter of 2021.[3]
