History
In 1939 S. Rajandram and S. Mahadevan bought out two US-owned trading companies, L D Seymore and Dodge & Seymore.[8] This was the first time there had been a management buyout in Sri Lanka.[9] In 1967 when the firm was incorporated, it bought A F Jones Exporters Limited.[10]
In the 1980s CMG started importing and distributing Anchor milk which led to the construction of a milk powder factory soon thereafter. The New Zealand Dairy Board (Fonterra) partnered with CMG for branding.[11] Anchor milk became one of Sri Lanka’s top Milk Powder brand[12] and a second brand Raththi was then created which became Sri Lanka’s No. 2 brand in the Powdered Milk industry.[13]
In 1993, CMG was licensed to set up FM stereo radio channels.[14] It partnered with Singapore Telecom, establishing MBC Networks (Private) Ltd. Five years later CMG acquired Singapore Telecom’s shares.[15]
In 2006, Capital Holdings Limited became the holding company. In 2018 Shashi Rajamahendran was appointed as Managing Director of the firm.[16]
