Carola Garcia de Vinuesa
Carola Garcia de Vinuesa FAA FAHMS is a Professor and Head of the Department of Pathogens and Immunity at the College of Medicine at the Australian National University.
Education and career
Vinuesa was born in Spain where she obtained a Bachelor of Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She completed clinical training in the United Kingdom and in 2000 was awarded a PhD in Immunology by the University of Birmingham. In 2001, she received a Wellcome Trust International Travelling Fellowship to undertake postdoctoral research at The John Curtin School for Medical Research at the Australian National University.[1]
Awards and recognition
She was the 2008 winner of the Australian Science Minister's Prize for Life Scientist of the Year[2] and the 2009 winner of the Australian Academy of Science's Gottschalk Medal for her research uncovering the origins of autoimmune diseases.[3] In 2015, she was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science[4] and in October 2020 she became a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.[5]
