Cato Networks, Ltd. is an Israeli Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) company. The company's core product converges SD-WAN and network security into a cloud-native service. The company designs cloud services that migrate from MPLS to SD-WAN, as well as a private backbone, security as a service and cloud access services. The converged SASE platform provides secure connectivity that covers enterprise branch locations, cloud infrastructure and mobile users. In 2021 Cato was valued at $1 billion.[2] The company's international headquarters is located in Tel Aviv, with development centers in USA, Israel, UK, Singapore, Japan, Netherlands and Australia. Cato has approximately 400 employees worldwide.[3]

History

Cato Networks was founded in 2015 by Shlomo Kramer, a former co-founder of Check Point and Imperva, and Gur Shatz, a former co-founder of Incapsula. The company launched its first service, Cato Cloud in the first quarter of 2016, and released an SD-WAN focused upgrade in the first quarter of 2017. Cato added an IPS as a service in the third quarter of 2017.

During 2019 the company launched its new line of SASE based products, among them "Cato SPACE"[4] and "Cato Socket".[5]

In 2020 the company completed 2 rounds of investment led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and it was valued as a finance unicorn.[6]

Products

Cato Cloud is a converged SD-WAN and security platform delivered as a cloud-native service. It connects branch locations, mobile users, and physical and cloud data centers, into a global and secure network.The Cato SASE platform has many security services. They are built directly into the cloud network and are a tightly integrated software stack.

Cato Cloud is made of two parts.

Cato SASE Cloud : A global, geographically distributed, SLA-backed cloud service, running on a private backbone of PoPs, interconnected by multiple tier-1 providers. Enterprises connect physical locations to Cato using the Cato Socket SD-WAN device, data centers connect via IPSEC tunnel or a Cato vSocket, and remote users connect via the Cato SDP Client or a browser.

Cato Security Services: A set of network security capabilities, directly built into the network. Current services include a next-gen firewall, Secure Web Gateway, next-generation anti-malware, IPS-as-a-Service, and managed detection and response (MDR).

The network is managed by a cloud-based management application used to configure policies and monitor network activity and security events.

In July 2019 Gartner included Cato Networks in its Hype Cycle for Enterprise Networking 2019.[11] Gartner introduced a new category called the Secure Access Service Edge (SASE). SASE is defined as the convergence of the WAN Edge and Network Security into a single cloud-based platform.[12]
