Biography
Gomez was born in Gibraltar on 23 April 1959 and was called to the Bars of England, Wales and Gibraltar in 1982.
Career
He was retained by the suspended Chief Justice of Gibraltar, Derek Schofield, in proceedings for the removal of Gibraltar's senior judge heard by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London which resulted in a 4/3 split of that court in a decision handed down on 12 November 2009.
Gomez was a prominent member and spokesman of the "No vote" campaign for the 2006 constitution referendum on Gibraltar's current Constitution. He currently concentrates on his career as a barrister.
Gomez ran for Chief Minister in the 2007 Gibraltar general election as an independent right-wing candidate. In an election won by Sir Peter Caruana, Gomez received 0.78% of votes cast for Chief Minister, with his party winning no seats. He has not run for office in any of the three general elections since.
Gomez was linked to the Panama Papers leak scandal through several companies (namely Firststar Limited and Starfield Limited)[2] registered at his office's address.[3] Gomez's law firm offices also share address with an intermediary listed in the Panama Papers leak called Premier International Corporate Services Limited.[4] Through this company, Gomez's law firm acted as an intermediary for numerous companies that infamous Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca represented, such as Knightsbridge International Corporate Services Limited.[5] Links between Gomez and the since dissolved Panamanian firm are demonstrable through the numerous companies and intermediaries registered to Mossack Fonseca at Charles Gomez & Co's Secretary's Lane address in Gibraltar.
