Location

Coalford is a village in Drumoak, Aberdeenshire, Scotland situated slightly north of the River Dee.[1] It is situated just 1 mile west of Peterculter, Aberdeen.

Historical Significance

A statue of Rob Roy MacGregor is located near to Coalford.[2] A number of noted historical structures lie in the vicinity of Coalford including Crathes Castle, Muchalls Castle, Maryculter House and the Lairhillock Inn. Considerable prehistory occurs in the local region along the Deeside, as evinced by the ancient sites of Balbridie and Bucharn.[3] Coalford is situated near the ancient Roman Camp of Normandykes, which was accessed by a march northward from Raedykes via the Elsick Mounth trackway.[4]

Along the River Dee, there is a church ruin commonly known as "Dalmaik Church" or the "Coalford Church". There is a plaque at the entrance the states this building served as the "Kirk of Drumoak" from 1062 to 1836. Graves on the property date back to the 18th century.

Local Life

There are under 100 residents in the Coalford Area: Some residents have lived there for decades as part of an ongoing farming community. Others are newer and have made the area their home during the 21st century.
