Cook Islander Australians are Australians born in the Cook Islands with Cook Islander ancestry. In 2016, there were 22,230 people in Australia claiming Cook Islander ancestry, a higher number than any other country in the world (including the Cook Islands and New Zealand themselves). In 2016, 6,832 people were born in the Cook Islands.[3] In 2016, 5,119 people spoke Cook Islands Māori at home.[4]
