Coordination Council (Afghanistan)

The Coordination Council is an unofficial transitional body established by Afghan politicians to coordinate the handover of the state institutions of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Taliban.[1] The council was formed in the aftermath of the Taliban victory in the War in Afghanistan and the 15 August 2021 Fall of Kabul.[2] It consists of Hamid Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah, and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.[1][3]

As of 16 August 2021, a Taliban delegation was in talks in Qatar with representatives of titular President Ashraf Ghani to secure his formal resignation as head of state.[4]
