Controversy

In December 2020, CEO Yoshiaki Yoshida caused a backlash after using a derogatory nickname for rival firm Suntory, often used online in reference to their wide usage of Korean models. He claimed that almost every celebrities used in Suntory's promotion has Korean lineage, while he boasted that DHC only employs "pure" Japanese models.[6] The CEO's comments were posted on DHC's website shortly before Suntory Wellness was announced as the market leader for the previous year.[7]

In April 2021, in response to NHK's coverage on his statement, Yoshiaki claimed that "the majority of the people that make up Japan's core are ethnic Koreans" including the majority of NHK's announcers and management, and that it "is extremely dangerous for Japan". He also referred to NHK, a statutory corporation of Japan, as an enemy of the state. DHC later secretly apologized for its CEOs comments to local governments.[8][9]
