History

DealStreetAsia was founded in 2014 by the current editor-in-chief, Joji Thomas Philip, and Sushobhan Mukherjee.[3] One of the earliest investors was Puthen & Cole, a Singapore-based venture capitalist (VC).

In 2015, it announced a series A funding from Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the Hindustan Times Media Group, and the Singapore Angel Network (SGAN).[4] It focuses on private equity and venture capital in Asian markets.[5]

In late 2016, DealStreetAsia organised the first iteration of the Asia PE-VC Summit, a venture capital investor conference taking place in the Asian region.[6][7] The conference continues to be held annually.[6]

In 2018, the company monetized subscriptions to their website. Subscriptions also comes with discounted tickets to the Asia PE-VC Summits.[8]

In 2019, it was acquired by Nikkei, with existing stakeholders Singapore Press Holdings, North Base Media, Alpha JWC, SGAN, Sharma, and Jim Rogers leaving.[5][9]
