Deccani mushaira
deccani mushaira (Urdu: دکن مشاعرہ, Dakhani mus̱ẖāʿirah) is a poetic symposium of satire where poets present there work and it regarded as a forum for free self-expression. A mushaira is part of the Culture of Hyderabad and Deccan in general, particularly among the Hyderabadi Muslims.[1] The musahairas are organised in chaste Deccani language. In 1985 first World Humour conference was conducted in Hyderabad.

Organizations which conduct annual or regular symposium are "The Centre for Deccan Studies", "Salar Jung Museum, Narendra Luther, "Shankarji Memorial Mushaira", The Henry Martyn Institute, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, University of Hyderabad and others.
Etymology
According to some legends Mushaira originated in the 14th century in Deccan during the Bahmani Sultanate, and was introduced in Delhi by Wali Deccani in 1700 AD, where upon his arrival he recited a collection of his poems in a vernacular Deccani language—(a form of Urdu) in front of a large public gathering, until then in Delhi they were no poetic public gatherings for locals, where as poetic gatherings use to commence in elite courts in which participating poets use to recite there poems only in Persian.[2][3]
