Overview and history
The company was created by two dentists, Marilyn Orcharton and Stephen Noar, in 1986. They set up a system that aimed to simplify administration within the dental practice.[1] Denplan offers a range of dental payment plans to suit various oral health needs and budgets. Denplan also provides professional services for its member dentists and their practice teams, including the Denplan Quality Programme,[2] the Denplan Excel Certification Programme[3] and Denplan Plus.[4]
In December 2011, Denplan was purchased by Simplyhealth Group Limited (Simplyhealth) from the AXA Group.[5]
In May 2020, Denplan announced an investment of £2m in fully-certified personal protective equipment (PPE) for Denplan member dentists so that they could reopen their practices and return to work sooner after lockdown.[6]
Products
Denplan payment plans allow dentists to charge their patients a fixed monthly fee for providing private dental care as laid out in the patient’s care contract. There are four different types of plan available:
- Denplan Care
- Denplan Essentials
- Denplan for Children
- Denplan Membership[7]
In addition to personal dental payment plans, Simplyhealth also provides corporate dental cover for employee benefit schemes.

Mouth Cancer Action Mouth (MCAM)
MCAM runs for the month of November every year to raise awareness of mouth cancer, the risk factors, the importance of early detection and what signs to look out for.[21]
