DocuDays UA

The DocuDays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival (DocuDays) is the only human rights film festival in Ukraine. The festival is held annually at Kyiv in March and admission is free to the general public.[1][2] Each year, the festival has a different theme, and while not all movies shown adhere to that year's theme, all presented films are documentaries that focus on the subject of human rights.[2]

History

DocuDays was founded in 2004 as a film festival in which participants purchase tickets to view films at various locations in Kyiv.[2]

In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was not held in person. Instead, Docudays was held virtually on a website called DOCU/SPACE, with several panels and classes on the subject of filmmaking available to be viewed, as well making available for a limited time films that would have been presented at the in-person event.[3]

In 2021, the event has been announced to be a hybrid program, with certain screenings being put on in person at the Zhovten Cinema in Kyiv and other screenings and panels being online at the DOCU/SPACE website.[4] The theme for the 2021 festival will be the "human right to health" in response to the ongoing pandemic.[5]
