Background and promotion
Conceived and recorded throughout August 2010, the band teamed up with producer Jimi Maroudas and recorded the album across three weeks. Once the band members settled on a title for the album their label proposed a series of promotional videos. Revolving around the concept of not sleeping, the band members were challenged to stay up for 36 hours while completing a series of tasks. Four episodes of the Don't Sleep TV campaign were released with frontman Chris Scott being declared the winner.[1]
As a promotional release, the band released the only single from the album entitled "Homecoming" for free. Stealing O'Neal later embarked on a headline tour for the release of their album from 15 October. The Don't Sleep tour performed in four locations; Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.[2] Stealing O'Neal held a streaming event on their MySpace page on 4 October, four days before the official release, where they streamed the album in its entirety.[3]
Writing and composition
The subject matter of the single "Homecoming" deals with overcoming fear and doubt.[2]
The guitar amps of the track "Take the Bait (Test Me)" used a combination of ribbon and dynamic recording.[4]
