Elaine O'Neal (politician)
Elaine O'Neal is an American attorney, academic administrator, and politician who is the mayor-elect of Durham, North Carolina. Upon assuming office as the 40th mayor of Durham, O'Neal will also be the city's first female African-American mayor.[1][2]

Early life and education
O'Neal is a native of Durham. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from North Carolina Central University and a Juris Doctor from the North Carolina Central University School of Law.[3]
Career
O'Neal served as a judge of the North Carolina District Court from 1994 to 2011 and of the North Carolina Superior Court from 2011 to 2018. In June 2018, O'Neal was selected as interim dean of the North Carolina Central University School of Law.[4][5]
