Emine Dzhaparova

Emine Aiiarovna Dzhaparova (or Dzheppar; Crimean Tatar: Emine Ayar qızı Ceppar, Russian: Эмине Айяровна Джапарова, Ukrainian: Еміне Айяровна Джапарова; born 5 May 1983) is a Crimean Tatar-Ukrainian journalist, editor, television presenter, and politician. She is serving as the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.[1]

Education

Dzhaparova graduated with honours from the Institute of International Relations at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, majoring in international politics and English translation (2000–2006). In 2005 she participated in the United States State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program and Youth Alternative programs, and interned with the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. She participated in diplomatic training at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael in 2008.

Career

In 2002–03 Dzhaparova worked for the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine as assistant on minority issues. She was attaché on social and humanitarian issues for the Department of Culture and Humanitarian Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from March 2008 to January 2010.

From 2011 she worked in journalism, initially as a producer at Crimean Tatar channel ATR. From February 2014 she was a journalist at Radio Svoboda.

From October 2015 to April 2016 she was appointed advisor on Crimea to the Minister of Information Policy. From 20 April 2016 she was appointed Deputy Minister of Information Policy. On 3 September 2019 she submitted her resignation.[2]

She ran for parliamentary deputy with the Ukrainian Strategy of Groysman in the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary elections.

From 18 May 2020 she served as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs under Dmytro Kuleba,[3] and as head of the Ukrainian National Commission on UNESCO.[4] In this post she is responsible for the Crimea Platform diplomatic initiative for recovering control of the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula.[5][6]
