Enel X

Enel X was first established by Timothy G. Healy and David Brewster, as EnerNOC, LLC. The latter was acquired by the Enel Group in August 2017. [10] EnerNOC went public in 2007 on the NASDAQ stock exchange, raising US$98 million.[11][12]

EnerNOC owned numerous subsidiaries around the world. In 2009, EnerNOC bought Cogent Energy and acquired eQuilibrium Solutions.[13] In March, 2010, EnerNOC bought SmallFoot, LLC, a company that makes wireless systems to manage demand for smaller facilities.[14] In late 2010 and early 2011, respectively, EnerNOC announced agreements to acquire Global Energy Partners and M2M Communications.[15]

Since early 2014, EnerNOC acquired five additional companies: Activation Energy, an Irish provider of demand response; Entelios, a German demand response provider; EnTech, a global utility bill management software provider; Pulse Energy, a Vancouver-based provider of utility customer engagement software; and World Energy, an energy procurement software company.

In August 2017, Enel Green Power North America acquired EnerNOC for over $300 million.[9][16] In January 2018, EnerNOC integrated Demand Energy, the provider of the DEN.OS platform for optimizing energy storage and on-site power generation for demand-side management and microgrid deployments, which had been acquired by the Enel Group in January 2017.[17] After the acquisition of EnerNOC, Enel X expanded its services by acquiring companies specialized in the digitization of energy services[18] and by creating partnerships with companies from industries such as automotive,[19] home automation,[20] ITC, and real estate.[21]

The activities carried out in the field of electric mobility led to the installation of charging points throughout Italy.[22] In July 2018, Enel X acquired 21% of Ufinet International, a platform in the ultra-broadband sector in Latin America.[23] In the same period, Enel X expanded in the energy efficiency sector with the acquisition of Yousave.[24] In October 2018, Enel X announced that its subsidiary EnerNOC, Inc. rebranded to Enel X.[25] This operation was followed by the acquisition of Demand Energy (DEN) and eMotorWerks in the United States.[26]

On December 20, 2018, Enel X and Infracapital signed a deal for energy efficiency projects for business customers.[27] In September 2018, progresses on the installation of new charging points in Italy were announced.[28] In January 2019, Enel X became Poland’s 2021 - 2023 demand response leader, with a 70% share in the segment.[29]

In June 2019 Enel X and FCA signed a partnership agreement for the development of electric vehicle projects.[30][31] In October 2019 the company signed a partnership with Hyundai, comprising the possibility of recharging electric vehicles at Enel X public recharging infrastructures.[32] The same occurred with other car manufacturers, such as Audi,[33] PSA [34] and Smart.[35] In January 2020, Enel X took part in the Consumer Electronics Show - CES in Las Vegas.[36]

In the summer of 2010, EnerNOC contracted with the Tennessee Valley Authority, the nation's largest public power company, for a 10-year, 560 megawatt demand response contract that represented an addition of 400 MW to TVA's existing deployment of approximately 160 MW with Enel X.[37] Enel X has also performed work for the United States Department of Energy.[38]
