In 1996, Chozhan Ramalingam and Rajiv Paarirajan are two friends who are trained by Paarirajan, Rajiv's father and an ex-CBI officer to enable them to join the Police. Although given equal training, Chozhan appears to best out Rajiv, causing the latter to turn jealous and develop a deep hatred for the former. One day, both Chozhan and Rajiv are playing chess in which Rajiv wins. While Rajiv leaves Chozhan pondering over the outcome, he sees Paarirajan dead on the floor. The boys are escorted to the police station and although Chozhan tells the inspector that he can find out the killer using his skills, but Ramalingam, Chozhan's risk-averse father, takes back Chozhan, leaving Rajiv alone and they leave the place.

Years later, Chozhan becomes a departmental store owner, run by Ramalingam in Singapore. He secretly masquerades in petty crimes to help the Tamil community with the skills he learnt from Paarirajan. One day, a gas company near his store suddenly bursts, which kills 11 Tamil people and severely injures more. Chozhan nabs Joseph, the painter who is responsible and hands him over to the police, where he is informed by the inspector at the station that the explosion may be a bait to kill the Indian External Affairs minister, who is en route to Singapore to address the Tamil people. The next day, the minister struggles to speak at the gathering and Chozhan immediately senses that her pacemaker had been tampered with, and grabs a gun from the security guard and shoots her in the chest. Chozhan is caught by the police but is later released after they realise that he had saved the minister's life by severing the pacemaker wires. As soon as Chozhan tips off the police, they nab the perpetrator revealed to be Rajiv, Chozhan's former friend and now an assassin. Rajiv, however, escapes by brainwashing the policemen, who drop him off along the roadside. Chozhan meets up with Rajiv, who reveals the incident that happened on the day they separated. While Chozhan had overly concentrated on continuing the chess game, Rajiv is confronted by Paarirajan who berated him for misusing his skills after he found out that he looted some money, prompting Rajiv to kill his father. Upon hearing this, Chozhan argues that he has always considered Rajiv as a friend but also warns that he would pay for his mistakes. Instead, Rajiv argues that he has evolved and grown in multiple ways and is way too advanced for Chozhan to intercept, while challenging Chozhan to rescue one of his close ones that Rajiv would soon kidnap. Chozhan accepts the challenge.

At his engagement with Ashvitha, Chozhan realises that his cousin's daughter, Pinky has gone missing from her school excursion. Soon, Rajiv contacts him and informs him that he kidnapped Pinky from her school to kill her, but Chozhan informs that he had kidnapped Rajiv's pregnant wife Anisha. Chozhan threatens to kill Anisha if anything happens to Pinky. Rajiv stresses out and saves Pinky in the nick of time. Chozhan and Rajiv meet in order to exchange their kins. As Rajiv releases Pinky over to Chozhan, Chozhan says that he would not let go of this issue easily and that they both have to answer for all the assassinations that they have been a part of. He gives Rajiv a deal; he would safely transport Anisha back to India if Rajiv surrenders. Rajiv agrees reluctantly and surrenders himself, together with his weapons and evidence. As Chozhan transports Anisha to the airport, she visits the toilet, where a hitman - hired by the Chinese businessman after Rajiv failed the mission - appears and slits her throat.

Meanwhile, in prison, Rajiv finds out about Anisha's death on TV and is anguished. He thinks Chozhan had broken his side of the deal by killing her and escapes the prison by ingesting some shrimps which cause him allergies and attacks the medics. He rushes to the morgue to find Anisha's corpse and turns hysterical. He plots against Chozhan by kidnapping the children of his area and addresses the community that in order to save their children, Ramalingam must die. After several failed attempts by the neighbors to kill him, out of the respect they have for him, Rajiv brainwashes Ramalingam to commit suicide by drinking poison. In the meantime, Chozhan learns of Anisha's death and saves the children by finishing off their kidnappers one by one. When Chozhan returns to his community with the children, Ramalingam vomits blood and dies, not before revealing about Rajiv's intentions. An angered Chozhan confronts Rajiv inside a skyscraper and after a thrilling fight, Chozhan kicks Rajiv off the building, only for Chozhan to grab him by his leg. While Rajiv sadistically tells Chozhan that he had won due to his father dying, Chozhan tells him that he had made a big mistake by letting the man who had killed Anisha roam freely. Rajiv gets shocked at the truth and tries to convince Chozhan to pull him up, but Chozhan drops him off the building leading Rajiv to his death. Years later, Chozhan and his son visit the cemetery where he places flowers both at his father's grave as well as Rajiv's. When asked by his son on why he places flowers at Rajiv's grave even though he was antagonized. Chozhan tells him that during their childhood, Rajiv was a good person and asks his son on what he wants to be in life and that he is free to be what he wants to be.

The principal photography of the film began in November 2020[8] and the shoot wrapped up on 12 July 2021.[9]

The songs were composed by S. Thaman and Sam C. S. while the latter did the film score.

The film was initially scheduled to be theatrically released on 14 October 2021,[10] but then pushed to 4 November 2021.[11]
