Fatima Adamu

Fatima Adamu (born 29 September 1972) is a Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist. She was the wife of the former Inspector General of Police (Nigeria), Mohammed Adamu and she also served as the President of Police Officers wives of Nigeria.[1]

Early life and education

Born on 29 September 1972 in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, Fatima Adamu developed a love for business at an early age. From the age of eight, she would sell pens to her classmates and use her profit to buy for kids who could not afford it. This childhood experience helped to shape her business journey and philanthropy and as a teenager, she was already writing business plans for small and medium-sized enterprises in her hometown. She was married to Mohammed Adamu, and has six children.[2] She has held executive positions both privately and publicly. She is a well-known philanthropist.[3][4][5]

Graduating at the age 10 from Army Children School Apapa, she proceeded to Akurba High School, Nasarawa State where she obtained a West African Examinations Council Certificate. She identifies as a muslim. After the death of her father, she stopped her education and decided to go into business to feed and cater for her family.

Career

She was the president of Police Officers wives of Nigeria.[6]

On September 12, 2020, she met with Emir of lafia Sidi Bage and was rewarded with a chiftency title "Hasken Mata". the emir said the title was in recognition of her contributions to the wellbeing of women.[7]

Controversy

on October 28, 2019, Tenants occupying the Police Officers’ Wives Association’s Phase II Shopping Complex, Ikeja, Lagos State, took to the streets to protest against the alleged decision of the then Inspector-General of Police’s wife, Fatima Adamu, to demolish the complex. A former Chairman of the complex, Jerry Mba, while lamenting that the tenants had invested much in the complex, urged the then IG, Mohammed Adamu, and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to intervene in the matter.[8]
