Lynx Air

Lynx Air is a Canadian ultra low-cost carrier based in Calgary, Alberta. It previously operated as Enerjet, and has been rebranded as Lynx Air on November 16, 2021.[1]

History

Enerjet

Enerjet was originally formed in 2006 by a small group of entrepreneurs addressing what they perceived to be a gap in the service provided by Canada's major airlines, WestJet and Air Canada in "middle Canada".[2] It was initially known as New Air & Tours until 20 October 2008, when New Air & Tours revealed their name and corporate logo to be styled as Enerjet.[3] Enerjet was founded by nine individuals, including Tim Morgan, the former senior vice president of WestJet.[4] On 28 November 2008, Enerjet received an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) and Air Operators License issued by the Canadian Transportation Agency.[5] In late 2021, Enerjet has since been rebranded as Lynx Air.

Lynx Air

Lynx Air was launched on November 16, 2021, with plans to begin flying in the first quarter of 2022. During the announcement, the airline made commitments for up to 46 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with deliveries starting in early 2022. The goal of the airline is to empower more Canadians to be able to travel, with Lynx Air CEO Merren McArthur stating that “our strategy is actually about growing the pie, growing the number of passengers who fly.”[6] The airline will start flying domestic routes and will serve international destinations after. Lynx Air follows the low-cost carrier model for its operations.

Fleet

Lynx has announced that it will operate a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, featuring leading-edge fuel-efficient technology. The airline has firm orders and lease agreements in place for a total of 46 aircraft over the next seven years to meet the anticipated demand. The airline’s first three Boeing 737s are scheduled to arrive in early 2022.

Management

Lynx Air announced[7] that Merren McArthur has been named CEO and President. She has served as CEO of ultra low-cost carrier Tigerair Australia, CEO of Virgin Australia Regional Airlines, and founding CEO of Virgin Australia Cargo.

Vijay Bathija has been named Chief Commercial Officer. Most recently, he held commercial strategy and revenue management roles with Etihad Airways and also led commercial activities as part of the launch management team for Air Canada Rouge.

Tim Morgan has been named Chief Operations Officer and Founder. Morgan is best known as the founder of WestJet and Morgan Air LLP/Air Partners/Aircraft Works, and Enerjet. At Lynx Air, he is responsible for strategic planning, operational procedures and regulatory compliance.

Michael Holditch, Chief Financial Officer of Lynx Air, joined the airline industry in 2015 when he was named CFO at Enerjet, after more than 20 years in managerial roles in the sports and entertainment industry.
