It was launched on November 3, 2014, as a direct successor replacing Moviecity, founded on June 1, 1997, by LAPTV. In 2013 LAPTV was integrated into Fox International Channels Latin America and the channel package was renamed the following year as Fox+ and later as Fox Premium. Since February 22, 2021, Fox Premium is renamed Star Premium, as well as all the channels that make up the plan,[1] because the acquisition by Disney did not include the use of the Fox brand.[2]
History
Before 2012, LAPTV operated in Latin America the channels CineCanal, 'The Film Zone' and MovieCity package, which consisted of a Moviecity channel (recent premieres and original productions, launched in 1997), Citymix (miscellaneous, 1997), Citystars (classic films , 2004), CityVibe (cinema and action series, 2007), CityFamily (family, 2009) and Citymundo (independent movies, 2011). In 2012 LAPTV unified the channels under the Moviecity brand, being renamed Moviecity Premieres, Moviecity Hollywood, Moviecity Classics, Moviecity Action, Moviecity Family and Moviecity Mundo respectively, in addition to launching high definition signals for all signals (except Moviecity Classics and Mundo). It also operated two additional signals in Brazil. In total, LAPTV operated nine premium channels plus two basic channels and four premium channels plus two basic channels in high definition, in addition to other additional services (VOD and internet). All the signals were properties of Fox Latin American Channels since 2009 - a company that would have acquired its stake in LAPTV from other distributors - although the latter maintained its operation.
In 2012, its competitor HBO signed with Universal Studios for which it will begin shooting films from 2014 onwards, and from 2015, Fox would stop broadcasting Universal's films only on premium channels, and HBO would begin to broadcast some films from it. The studio was broadcast on Fox channels. In 2017, it would reissue Universal films, broadcasting only the films that premiered on HBO.
In 2013 LAPTV ceased to exist as such when it was merged and integrated into Fox Latin American Channels, a company that became the operator of the brand.
In 2014, Fox International Channels Latin America announced the launch of the Moviecity package as Fox+ in addition to the Fox Play+ platform for multiplatform entertainment; the start of the Fox Play+ service was simultaneous with the launch of the Fox+ package.[3] Innovation included the redesign and restructuring of the premium Moviecity channels, and the launch of a seventh channel, Fox Comedy, without commercial breaks.
On December 23, 2015, Fox International Channels announced the launch for Brazil, starting in February 2016, of the Fox+ premium channel package that included some of the programmer's premium channels such as Fox 1 and Fox Action, as well as access to the Video On Demand (VOD) and TV Everywhere platform with exclusive FoxPlay+ content.
On March 11, 2017, in Latin America and Brazil the channel package changed its name from "Fox + Premium" to Fox Premium. The Fox 1 channel also underwent modifications, being renamed Fox Premium Series, displaying only content of this type, unlike before, when it exhibited premiere films and series. However, the name of the canal was left intact in Brazil.

On November 27, 2020, Disney announced that they would rebrand the Fox branded channels in Latin America to Star on 22 February 2021.[4]
With the changes made by Disney of the closure of 100 channels around the world, including Latin America, in addition to the launch of Star+ in the region that took place on August 31, 2021, the channels will be discontinued on January 31, 2022, a month after the discontinuation of the Brazilian Fox Sports networks.[5][6]
