Frederike Migom

Frederike Migom (born 1985), is a Belgian director, screenwriter and actress.[1] She is best known for the award-winning film Binti.[2]

Personal life

Frederike Migom moved to New York at the age of 17 where she completed her education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She later moved to Paris where she studied film at the école Superieure d'Etudes Cinématographiques. Currently Frederike is based in Brussels.

Career

Her feature debut Binti [3] (2019) had it's North-American premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2020, screened at more than 45 festivals worldwide winning multiple awards such as the ECFA award for Best European Film for young audiences 2020 and the Golden Lion at Cinekid in 2019. Binti was released in many countries, both in cinema's and online.

Prior to Binti, Frederike's short film Nkosi Coiffure (2015) screened at many festivals worldwide among which the Tribeca Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival, and has won multiple awards.

In 2020, Frederike co-wrote and directed an episode for the Belgian mini-series Lockdown (2021), selected at Cannesseries 2021. Also in 2020 she wrote and directed the short documentary ANGRY (BOOS) (2021) as part of the series ket&doc, for Flemish television.

Currently Frederike Migom is developing her 2nd feature film Tegenwoordig heet iedereen Sorry (Nowadays everybody’s called Sorry). The film is an adaptation of the successful novel by Bart Moeyaert who has won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, world’s most prestigious award for youth literature.

Additionally, Frederike is writing “Jessie”, an original feature length screenplay co-written with Dutch screenwriter Emily Reekers.
