Gyanendra Pratap Singh

Gyanendra Pratap Singh is a 1991 batch IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre.[3] He is the current Special Director General of Assam Police, and had previously served as the Inspector General in NIA. He was transferred to his parent cadre (Assam-Meghalaya cadre) in 2019 as ADGP (Law & Order) amid the chaotic situation during protests against CAA.[4]

Apart from the SDGP Charge, he is also serving as the Director of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, Assam.[5][6]

Controversies

During the Citizenship Amendment Act protests, 5 protesters were killed, while the then ADG(Additional Director General) of Police, G P Singh commented controversial remark before media: “If a couple of bullet injuries can bring the situation to normalcy, it is ok.”[10]
