"H.Y.C.Y.BH" is a song by Australian comedian and musician Tom Cardy from his debut extended play, Artificial Intelligence (2021), which was released on 6 August 2021. Singlehandedly written, recorded and produced by Cardy himself, the song was first debuted on video sharing platform TikTok. "H.Y.C.Y.BH" received praise from music critics following its official release.

Background and release

"H.Y.C.Y.BH" was first debuted on video sharing platform TikTok,[1][2] with the official music video being uploaded to YouTube on 3 July 2021.[3] It was later released as part of the EP, Artificial Intelligence (2021), on 6 August 2021.[4] A metal keyring promoting the song was made available following the EP's release.[5]

Critical reception

Writing for the Music, journalist Joe Dolan labelled "H.Y.C.Y.BH" one of the best songs of the month, stating "it's hard not to admire the sheer tenacity that comes with one man's journey into enlightenment." Dolan additionally likened the titular question to that of "What's Going On?" by Marvin Gaye and "Who Let the Dogs Out?" by Baha Men.[6] A staff writer for the same publication dubbed it "incredible handiwork", saying "you're gonna have this song in your head for a while.".[1] Dustin Rowles of Pajiba praised the song as "art", saying "[it's] the best reason I have ever seen for the existence of TikTok."[2]
