Background

Buluggin ibn Muhammad had just coordinated a campaign in Biskra where he restored Hammadid authority. [2]

Capture

Buluggin decided to lead an expedition against the Almoravids. Yusuf ibn Tashfin at the time had just subdued the Masmuda, having heard of this Buluggin marched against the Almoravids, threw them back into the desert and then captured Fez extending the Hammadid empire to Morocco.[1][3][2][4]

Aftermath

After spending some time in Fez he decided to leave taking with him the main inhabitants of the city as captives.[2][3] An-Nasir who wished to avenge the death of his sister realised the opportunity to assassinate Buluggin and then killed him.[2][3] An-Nasir succeeded him as the Hammadid King and although they lost Sijilmasa to the latter, he was successful in extending the Hammadid domain in Tunis, Kairouan, past the Tunisian coast including the cities of Sfax and Susa all the way until Tripoli as well as Ouargla expanding deep into the south of the Sahara and even causing the Almoravids to halt at the advance of the Hammadids in the Sahara.
