Distribution and Habitat
Known to be territorial, its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.[2] It is labeled as near threatened due to habitat loss.[2] [3]
It's nest has been described as a "hanging cup", 0.5 - 2 meters off the ground, made generally of moss, cobweb, and other plant material.[4]
Diet
This species has been recorded defending and feeding on Palicoureasp blooms (Rubiaceae), Melastomataceae, and Thibaudia.[4]
Reproduction
Little is known of H. lugens reproduction. One record witnessed nesting in May, and young in February, but this coincided with the rainy season so it may differ.[4]
