Hugo Lowell

Hugo Lowell (born March 30, 1999) is a British-American congressional reporter based in Washington DC. He has reported for Guardian US, and regularly appears as an analyst on MSNBC.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Lowell was born in New York City. He was educated at the Dalton School and St. Paul's School, London.

Career

Lowell started his career as a sports reporter for the i newspaper in 2017, covering the IAAF world athletics championships in London, for which he was named a finalist at the British Sports Journalism Awards, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow.[4][5][6] He moved to Guardian US as a freelance congressional reporter in 2021, covering House and Senate leadership and the January 6 select committee.[7][8][9]

Lowell has broken several high-profile stories, including news that the January 6 committee would subpoena former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows,[10] and that former President Donald Trump would instruct top aides like Meadows to defy congressional subpoenas.[11] He also reported that hours before the Capitol attack, Trump called aides at the Willard hotel in Washington DC and sought ways to stop Joe Biden's certification.[12]

Lowell regularly appears as a political analyst on MSNBC, as well as on BBC News, BBC World Service, LBC and Times Radio.[13][14][15][16][17][18]
