Ive (group)

Ive (Korean: 아이브; stylized as IVE) is a South Korean girl group formed by Starship Entertainment. The group is composed of six members: Yujin, Gaeul, Rei, Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo. The group made their debut on December 1, 2021, with their first single album Eleven.[1][2]

Name

The group name, Ive, stands for "I Have". The aim of the group name is to confidently show what "I have" to the audience. Instead of telling the story of a growing girl group, the group will try to portray the image of a "complete girl group."[3]

Career

2018–2021: Pre-debut

Yujin and Wonyoung participated in Produce 48 in 2018, where they finished in 5th place and 1st place, respectively. As one of twelve successful participants, they went on to be a part of the newly formed girl group Iz*One.[4] They promoted with the group until their disbandment on April 29, 2021.[5]

2021–present: Introduction, and debut with Eleven

On November 2, Starship Entertainment announced that it would be debuting a new girl group, the first time since WJSN in 2016.[6] The members were revealed from November 3 to 8 (in order: Yujin,[7] Gaeul,[8] Wonyoung,[9] Liz,[10] Rei,[11] and Leeseo).[12] On November 8, Starship revealed that the group will be debuting on December 1.[13] Two days later, it was announced the group will debut with the single album Eleven.[14]

On December 1, the group released their debut single album, Eleven, led by the single of the same name. The group made their broadcast debut on KBS2's Music Bank on December 3 performing "Eleven".[15] According to the chart released by Billboard on the 6th, "Eleven" debuts at 12th place on the World Digital Song Sales chart and has as well topped the Hot Trending Songs chart.[16] Furthermore, the single "Eleven" debuts on Billboard Japan's Hot 100 chart and manages to debut at the top of the 'Top User Generated Songs,' while the group enters the Artist 100. The group was also listed on Spotify's Global Top 200, China's QQ Music chart, Japan's Line Music, and all major domestic music sites' Top 10.[17]

On December 8, exactly a week after debut, Ive earned their first ever music show win on MBC's Show Champion, making them the fastest girl group to win first place since debut. In addition, Eleven recorded the highest initial total number of album sales recorded in its first week of release, the highest among girl group debut albums.[18][19]
