List of Alvin and the Chipmunks characters

Alvin Seville is the lead vocalist and the middle brother of the Chipmunks. He typically wears a sweater/hoodie with a yellow "A" and a red baseball cap. Alvin is portrayed as enthusiastic, mischievous, egotistical, and constantly seeking the spotlight. He often makes up crazy schemes to achieve goals, whether it be for benefiting others or getting out of difficult situations. He refers to them as "challenging the ordinary." His pride in his fame often comes off in vain, but Alvin loves his brothers very much, often proving that his heart speaks louder than his voice. Alvin is shown to have a crush on Brittany as the two often argue and compete against each other.

Like his brothers, Alvin was originally voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. In the animated series and film, he was voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Jr. Justin Long voiced Alvin in the live-action hybrid film series. On July 30, 2002, Alvin was No. 44 on TV Guide's list of "Top 50 Best Cartoon Characters of All Time".[1] His personality was based on one of Ross Jr.'s brothers, Adam Bagdasarian, who had a rebellious streak.[2]

Simon Seville is the tallest and the oldest brother of the Chipmunks. He typically wears a blue sweater/hoodie and big round glasses. Simon is usually portrayed as having substantial book smarts and a dry sense of humor. He is also an enthusiastic scientist, owning a laboratory with a library of classical books and scientific texts in the basement of the Chipmunks' house. Simon is kind, logical, responsible, and often takes charge whenever Alvin has gone too far with his schemes. He and Alvin have several disagreements but stick by each other despite everything. Simon is often implied to have a crush on Jeanette, sharing many similar traits. However, unlike her, he seems to be braver in standing up to siblings and not letting himself be pushed around. Simon is more rather shy around and not very open with feelings, but does display physical affection for Jeanette.

Like his brothers, Simon was originally voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. In the animated series and film, he was voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Jr. Matthew Gray Gubler voiced Simon in the live-action/animated film series.

Theodore Seville is the youngest of the Chipmunks, usually singing upper harmony. He wears a green sweater/hoodie and is shy, sweet, and naïve, his gullibility making him an easy target for Alvin's mischief and caught in his brother's arguments. Theodore has a big appetite, constantly craving snacks. He plays the drums, the guitar, and other instruments. Although he is sometimes teased by Alvin (sometimes Simon) they love each other. He seems to have affection for Eleanor.

Like his brothers, he was originally voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. In the animated series and film, his voice was provided by Janice Karman, Ross Bagdasarian Jr.'s wife, and the voice of all three Chipettes. Jesse McCartney voiced Theodore in the live-action hybrid movies.

Brittany Miller is the lead singer and middle sister of the Chipettes. She typically dresses in pink attire. Brittany is ambitious, vain, but loyal to her sisters, Jeanette and Eleanor. She is often trying to look pretty, popular, or get what she wants, but she does learn her lessons. Brittany often displays affection for Alvin, as they share many similar traits and are often quarrelsome. Brittany tends to push Jeanette around a lot, but deep down, they care about each other. Eleanor always tries to stand up to Brittany whenever she pushes Jeanette around, but they do share a strong sisterly relationship.

She is voiced by Janice Karman in most productions and Christina Applegate in the live-action/hybrid movies.

Jeanette Miller is the oldest sister and smartest of the Chipettes. She wears glasses and purple attire. Jeanette is intelligent, gentle, kind, compassionate. As she is the shyest and clumsiest of the group, she's nervous about her relationship with Simon. Still, she is beloved by her sisters and guardian, Miss Miller.

Like her sisters, she is voiced by Janice Karman in most productions, but Anna Faris in the live-action/hybrid movies.

Eleanor Miller is the youngest of the Chipettes. She wears spring green attire. Eleanor is kind, trusting, and courteous. She conflicts with Brittany when she pushes Jeanette around, but she loves her elder sisters and forgives them. She seems most apparent about her affection towards Theodore. Like him, Eleanor is also sensitive about her weight and does not like to be insulted for it.

Like her sisters, she is voiced by Janice Karman in the 1980s series, but later by Vanessa Bagdasarian (the daughter of Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian Jr.) in the 2015 series. Amy Poehler voiced her in second and third live-action/hybrid movie and Kaley Cuoco in the fourth.

Ian (played by comedian David Cross) serves as the main antagonist in the first two films. He is Dave's friend-turned-rival and former college roommate and serves as the CEO of Jett Records in the first film. When the Chipmunks audition to his home and automatically sign them on to the label. He rockets them to the top of the music business and attempts to lure them away from Dave for his profit. His plan ultimately fails, thus losing his job as CEO of Jett Records.

In the second film, Ian is now unemployed, in debt, and lives in the basement of Jett Records. However, he soon stumbles upon the Chipettes who want to be famous like the Chipmunks, so he takes them in vengeance on the Chipmunks. He enrolls them into the same school as the Chipmunks lets them battle the Chipmunks for the district's music competition. However, Ian's plans fail as he's left to imitate them at the Britney Spears concert, only to get thrown into a dumpster by security guards, losing everything again.

In the third film, Ian has mellowed, working on the Carnival Dream cruise ship dressed in a pelican suit. As a well-respected mascot, he takes his job very seriously and threatens to have Dave and the Chipmunks removed if necessary. However, Ian becomes Dave's friend again while helping him find the Chipmunks after being stuck on the island. In the end, he regains his wealth by starting a career as a screenwriter, having sold a screenplay about Zoe's story to Hollywood.

Claire is Dave's ex-girlfriend, who adores the Chipmunks after meeting them in the first live-action/hybrid movie. She makes amends with Dave by the end.

Toby is Dave's immature and careless cousin, who appears in the second film. He is a slacker who loves to play video games and still lives with his grandmother and Jackie Seville (Dave's aunt and his mother) until he decides he wants to do something with his life. He's had feelings for Julie Ortega (Anjelah Johnson) since high school who is the Chipmunks' homeroom/music teacher. He is played by Zachary Levi.

Zoe (Jenny Slate) is the (former) main antagonist of the third film. She is a deluded and kind-hearted castaway founded by the Chipmunks when they end up marooned on an island where she took refuge. She claims to be on the island for eight or nine years. At first, the group believed her to have crash-landed on the island until she unveils that she intentionally came there to look for treasure. However Zoe reforms herself after Ian convinces her to save Dave. Zoe later apologies to Jeanette for mistreating her. Jeanette accepts Zoe's apology and gives the former her bracelet in return. Ian later writes a screenplay about Zoe's story for Hollywood.

Agent James Suggs (Tony Hale) is the main antagonist of Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. He is an air marshal who personally despises the Chipmunks, blames them for being dumped by his girlfriend, and plots to hunt them down and have revenge. He is portrayed similarly to Ian Hawke as he gets humiliated the further goes into his revenge schemes.

Samantha (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) is a supporting character in the fourth CGI/live-action film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. She is the mother of Miles, who first appears at a miniature golf course with her son. Her occupation is a doctor, and she is Dave's girlfriend (believed to become his fiancée).

Miss Beatrice Miller is the kindly, absent-minded adoptive mother of the Chipettes. She occasionally babysits the Chipmunks and has a crush on Dave (despite her being old enough to be his mother). In her youth, Miss Miller was part of an all-girl singing group called "the Thrillers." Dody Goodman voiced her in the 1983 TV series.

The character is one of the Liberty Lane neighbors in the 2015 animated series.

Clyde Crashcup (voiced by Shepard Menken) is a scientist in a white coat whose experiments invariably fail. His was the only voice heard in many of the episodes because the other character in the series was his assistant Leonardo, who only whispered into Clyde's ear to communicate with him.
