Idania Martínez Grandales

Idania Martínez Grandales (born in Havana on 6 February 1965) is a Cuban broadcaster, journalist and academic, professor of voice-over at the Faculty of Communication of the University of Havana, and national methodologist of voice-over.

Biography

In June 1988, she graduated with a gold degree in Education, specialising in Literature-Spanish, from the Enrique José Varona University of Pedagogical Sciences.[1]

She enrolled in a course for training of speakers, taught by two greats of the profession: Nelson Moreno de Ayala (1930-2014) and Orestes Martel (1949-).[2][3]

She was placed in a pre-university in the countryside, in the municipality of Melena del Sur, Cuba. There she completed three years of Social Service.[3] When she finished, she started working at Radio Cadena Habana, in a programme called La hora del estudiante (The Student’s Hour).[3]

Since 2016, she has been an assistant lecturer in voice-over (Locution) and Linguistics at the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana.

As a senior lecturer at CERT (Centro de Estudios de la Radio y la Televisión Cubana), she teaches the following subjects:

  • Voiceover
  • Voice and Diction
  • Grammar, Morphology and Syntax
  • Lexicology and Semantics
  • Phonetics and Phonology
  • Linguistics Applied to Speech
  • Radio Writing.

She is a regular guest lecturer at foreign universities. She has repeatedly lectured at the Metropolitan University of Quito and the Metropolitan University of Guayaquil, Ecuador, at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico and the Ibero-American University.

Professional career in radio

Broadcaster since 1991. She has the highest artistic level (top category in Cuban voice-over).

She began her career on Radio Cadena Habana with the programme La hora del estudiante. Subsequently, she worked as a live voice-over artist in various programmes: Entérese, Entre-amigos, Hablando de deportes, Musical en grande, Noches de amor, Paradiso, 7 y 30 Juventud, Solo el amor, and Vigía, among many others.

From October 9, 1995 to December 31, 2005, she was the main announcer of Radio Reloj. She hosted the news magazine Impactos (on Radio Coco), the provincial news programme En síntesis (on Radio Cadena Habana), the news programme De buena tinta (on Radio Metropolitana) and the news magazine Despertar con Cuba (on Radio Habana Cuba).

She also hosted the news magazine Habana 19.[4]

At Radio Rebelde she hosted the national radio news programme Noticiero Nacional de Radio, the programme Estaciones, Portada Rebelde, and since 2010 she has been the host of the news magazine Haciendo radio.[5][6][7]

Working at Haciendo radio is learning day by day, it is constantly growing in the exercise of speech, thought and creation. It is a programme with great impact that engages us in front of millions of people, millions of people who see their lives reflected through the radio. A good news programme not only updates the audience on the most significant events in the country and the rest of the world, it must also have an impact on individual and collective conduct and be capable of summoning thoughts and calling for intelligent reflection, of building a better world. This is what Haciendo Radio works for every day, and in this battle we forge and, at the same time, we consolidate ourselves as better professionals and human beings.
At Haciendo radio, the broadcaster can no longer feel like a simple broadcaster, nor the journalist as a simple journalist because the demands of the space require more than a pure specialist, a comprehensive professional fused in a multiplicity of aspects of communication in the 21st century. Haciendo radio is a university of communication.

She has linked her work as a broadcaster to her work as a writer and scriptwriter for radio.

Professional career in television

She has made frequent voice-over recordings for the Publicimer company and for the Film Section of the FAR (Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces). She has also worked as a narrator in television dubbing. She has voiced television commercials. She worked for the documentary La rumba soy yo, for the comedy programme En la guarapera, in the programme Sabor bohemio, and hosted the ICRT Gala on its 40th anniversary. She has been an announcer for Cuban television programmes such as Teveré Hoy, and Mediodía en Tevé.

In 1999, she participated in the making of a documentary on the PNR (National Revolutionary Police) School “Captain San Luis”.

In 1998, she worked as a voice-over artist for the third broadcast of the national television news programme Noticiero Nacional de Televisión.

In television dubbing, she did the voice-over for the programmes Fotogramas, Testigos del tiempo, Galería y Museos, Caudal del Saber, and De amor y de vida.

She works in the programme Cartelera, on Televisión Cubana.
