Idol: The Coup

Idol: The Coup[1] (Korean: 아이돌: 더 쿠데타; RR: Aidol: Deo Kudeta) is a South Korean television series directed by No Jong-chan and written by Jung Yoon-jung. Starring Ahn Hee-yeon, Kwak Si-yang and Kim Min-kyu, it is about the last story of failed idols who need just one 'success' for them to disband.[2] The series premiered on November 8, 2021, and is being broadcast every Monday and Tuesday on JTBC.[3][4][5] The series is also available simultaneously with Korea on iQIYI for streaming worldwide.[6]

Synopsis

"Idol: The Coup" depicts an unpopular idol group's last story. To not disband the group Cotton Candy, the group only needs a one time hit.

Main
  • Ahn Hee-yeon as Kim Je-na, the leader of Cotton Candy, a struggling K-pop girlgroup.
  • Kwak Si-yang as Cha Jae-hyuk, the CEO of Starpeace Entertainment (the agency of both Cotton Candy and Mars).[7] He's Seo Ji-han's half-brother.[8]
  • Kim Min-kyu as Seo Ji-han, the leader and main vocalist of Mars, a popular K-pop boygroup and Kim Je-na's labelmate.[9] He's Cha Jae-hyuk's half-brother.[8]

Cotton Candy
  • Exy as El (Kang Yu-ri), main vocal. She has a strong will to pursue a solo career because Cotton Candy are not successful.
  • Ahn Sol-bin as Oh Hyun-ji, main dancer, rap. She is the youngest member of Cotton Candy[10]
  • Han So-eun as Jang Stella, sub vocal. The eldest member of the group, battling with anxiety issue because of her past events[11]
  • Green as Park Chae-ah, lead dancer, sub vocal. She is coming from a rich family and barely supported by her mother.

It is a joint Korean-American drama in which Take-Two Media Group and JTBC Studios collaborated with the American company Transparent Arts, to which Tiffany Hwang belongs.[25]
