If You Come to Earth

If You Come to Earth is a 2020 picture book by two-time Caldecott Medalist Sophie Blackall. The book, told in the form of a letter from a young boy named Quinn to a visitor from outer space, explains the variety of things an outer space visitor might do. In writing the book, Blackall worked with UNICEF and Save the Children. It is a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year.

Plot

The story depicts a boy named Quinn writing a letter that starts with "Dear visitor from outer space: If you come to Earth, here's what you need to know..."[1]

At the end of the book, Quinn says that "if you come to Earth, you can stay in my room. Love, Quinn." Then, he asks questions like "What is your eye color?" and "When is your birthday?" and concludes with "My friends and I want to know."

Awards

The book was a Smithsonian Best Children's Book of 2020, a Time Magazine Best Children's Book, and a New York Times Bestseller.

Adaptation to film

In June 2021, Weston Woods Studios adapted this book to an animated film[2] narrated by Dani Martinek, with music by Ernest Troost. It was animated by Duple LLC.
