Isuzuyori-hime

Isuzuyori-hime is the empress of Emperor Suizei, who appears in the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan) and the Kojiki.

Overview

Her elder sister, Princess Isuzuhime, was the empress of Emperor Jimmu, and like the sisters Toyotama-hime and Tamayori-hime, she passed down the lineage of intergenerational marriage of nephew and aunt.[1]

According to the Annengi Period of the Chronicles of Japan, Isuzu-yorehime is the daughter of Kotoyoshu. This is consistent with the Sui Yasushi Period's second year article, which states, "Emperor Suizei, the father of Emperor Annen, appointed Isuzu-yorehime to be his empress. In other words, she is the emperor's wife. Kawamata Bime is the empress of Emperor Suiyasu.

Historical investigation

The name Isuzu-yorinomikoto is similar to that of her sister, Hime-Tobori Isuzu-hime, and there are suggestions that they were the same person. Even if they were not the same person, there are many examples of sister marriages in ancient Japan, where two sisters married one man. The same theory points out that this is also possible based on the actual age calculation。[2]
