Italo Dell'Oro

Italo Dell’Oro, CRS (born June 20, 1953) is an Italian priest of the Catholic Church who serves as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Biography

Dell’Oro was born on 20 June 1953 in Malgrate, in the province of Lecco, Italy. His parents were Guiseppe Dell'Oro and Silene (Crippa) Dell'Oro. He has two sisters, Michela and Edvige (Edy). [1] His first cousin is Adelio Dell'Oro, who is now the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Karaganda.[2] As a teenager, his parish priest was Fr. Luigi Stucchi, who is now the Auxiliary Bishop Emertius for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milan.[3]

After graduating from university, Dell’Oro joined the Somaschi Fathers, taking his solem vows in 1981.[4] On September 11, 1982, Dell’Oro was ordained to the priesthood.

Pope Francis appointed Dell’Oro auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston on May 18, 2021.[5][6][7] On July 2, 2021, Dell’Oro was consecrated as a bishop.[8] Archbishop Franco Moscone, CRS, of Manfredonia-Vieste-S. Giovanni Rotondo, was to have served as one of his co-consecrators but could not attend due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Bishop Brendan J. Cahill of Victoria, served in place of Archbishop Moscone.[9]
